By participating, you and your colleagues, neighbors, friends and local business owners, will learn about the federal budget and work in small groups to determine what YOU beleive are the best public policy choices to enact to reduce the nation’s growing deficit over the next 10 years. By discussing the exact fiscal policy scenarios that Congress is discussing, you and other participants will make very difficult trade-offs related to Medicare and Social Security, the Defense department, Taxes and other federal programs.
The purpose of the exercise is threefold:
• What is the current composition of the federal budget? How are taxes spent and who pays them?

• What kind of political will and compromise will be required of our political leaders to change or even to maintain current federal budget priorities?
