City Administrator Interviews 7/12 and 7/13

Posted on: July 10th, 2011 by Erica Ackerman No Comments

The Council will interview candidates for the position of City Administrator on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, July 12 & 13. Council members will meet on July 12 at 7:30 am at City Hall, and will divide into three groups. Each group will interview each candidate one-on-one. Interviews will occur in separate rooms, and candidates will travel to each interview. The Council members will each have a list of questions to ask; as they stick to each list, they will be able to ask the same questions of each candidate — keeping the playing field level.

Council members will host a reception for the candidates on Tuesday evening, 5:30 to 7:30 in the lobby of the new annex to City Hall (enter off 5th Avenue). There will be light refreshments and an opportunity to meet each candidate. Each candidate will make a brief presentation. (more…)

Republicans and Democrats Can Save $10 Million for Michigan Taxpayers

Posted on: July 8th, 2011 by Erica Ackerman No Comments

The following is a message from Mark Brewer, Chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party:

Michigan Democrats call upon Michigan Republicans to join together with us to save Michigan taxpayers the $10 million that the 2012 Michigan Presidential Primary would cost. The Michigan Democratic Party, recognizing the severe budgetary stress on state and local governments, has decided not to use the state-funded presidential primary in 2012 to allow the $10 million it would cost to be used for our local schools, colleges and police services. Michigan Democrats will hold our own presidential caucuses — at our own expense — on May 5, 2012. We call upon the Republican Party to do the same thing.

The Michigan presidential primary is set under existing law for February 28, 2012, a date that is in violation of the rules of both the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee (“RNC”). If Michigan Republicans use this February 2012 presidential primary, the RNC automatically will cut the number of delegates from Michigan to the Republican National Convention in half – with absolutely no possibility under RNC rules that these lost delegate positions can be restored. Town Hall to Repeal Public Act 4 (Emergency Managers)

Posted on: July 8th, 2011 by Erica Ackerman No Comments

The July 9 AA Dems meeting will double as a Town Hall  on the repeal of Public Act 4. Brandon Jessup, Chairman/CEO of Michigan Forward will be our featured speaker.

Public Act 4 empowers Governor Snyder to appoint Emergency Managers (EM) to communities placed in the receivership of the state. The EM has broad, unchecked powers to sell public assets, close schools, shred public contracts and agreements, and dissolve governments and remove elected officials. A $1.7 billion tax cut for businesses has made a number of Washtenaw County municipalities and school districts at risk of receivership. (more…)

Upcoming City Council Info: New City Administrator, etc.

Posted on: July 3rd, 2011 by Erica Ackerman No Comments

The City Administrator

The City Council appointed a search committee to create some protocols for selecting a new City Administrator.  The committee recommended hiring an outside firm — to guarantee a national applicant pool and the confidentiality of all applicants.  The committee also recommended that the City’s Human Resources staff work with this firm (AFFION) to make certain that Ann Arbor’s specific needs are met.  On July 5, members of the committee will see, for the first time, the applications of interested and qualified candidates.  The committee will recommend finalists for interviews.
These interviews will take place on July 13.  There will be a reception — open to the public — for the finalists on Tuesday July 12 from 5:30 to 7:30.  This reception will be held in the lobby of the new Courts/Police addition to City Hall. (more…)
